The Winter in Bangladesh

Winter is one of the six seasons in Bangladesh. It usually begins in late November and lasts till February. During this season, the weather becomes cold and dry. The temperature often falls at night and early morning, and thick fog covers roads and fields. Communication sometimes becomes difficult because of dense fog. People wear warm clothes like sweaters, mufflers and shawls to keep themselves safe from cold.

Winter is the season of vegetables. Different kinds of fresh vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, spinach, beans and carrots are available in this season. Date juice, orange, apples and other winter fruits are also found in the markets. Farmers remain busy harvesting crops and selling vegetables.

Though winter is enjoyable for the rich and middle-class people, poor people suffer a lot due to cold. However, most people love winter because it is a pleasant and comfortable season in Bangladesh.

Winter brings abundance to Bangladesh. A wide variety of vegetables—such as cauliflower, cabbage, potatoes, brinjal, and tomatoes—grow in plenty. Date juice is collected, fruits become plentiful, and fish is widely available. People enjoy making payesh and different kinds of traditional pitha during this season. In villages, people enjoy Jatra, Jari Gan, Kabi Gan, stage dramas, and local fairs. Winter is also the best season for outdoor games and sports like cricket and tennis. 

This season is especially important for farmers, as many crops are harvested during this time. They become busy gathering paddy and storing it in their granaries. Winter is also an ideal time for travelling, picnics, and holding various religious or social events. However, winter also brings hardship for the poor. Many of them suffer from the severe cold because they do not have enough warm clothes. They shiver at night and in the early morning, often lighting fires with straw or dry leaves to keep themselves warm. 

Despite its disadvantages, winter remains a pleasant and enjoyable season in Bangladesh. Its mild weather, fresh vegetables, and festive atmosphere bring joy to people's lives and signal the arrival of the colourful spring.
